Project Description


The seed hub programme was initiated in 2016-17

Aim:

  1. To ensure the availability of new seed varities in Pulses .
  2. Production of quality seeds of Pulse crops.

A financial outlay of Rs 150 lakhs per kvk involving 12 KVKs of ICAR ATARI zone 10 under NFSM programme. Of which Rs 50 lakhs was meant for infrastructure development including seed storage and processing plant and Rs 100 lakhs was towards revolving fund.

During the year 2016-17, 8 KVKs of Maharashtra, 4 KVKs from Andhra Pradesh and 2 from Telangana state were involved under the project. Later from 2017-18 due to reorganization of ICAR- ATARI, Hyderabad, the KVKs involved from Maharashtra were transferred to ICAR ATARI zone 5, Pune, and 6 KVKs of Tamil Nadu from ICAR ATARI Bangalore were transferred to this zone. Thus 12 KVKs, 4 from Andhra Pradesh, 2 from Telangana and 6 KVKs from Tamil Nadu are involved in the implementation of seed hub programme.

Crop wise varieties indentified for seed production


5 pulse crops notified by the central varietal seed committee (CVRC) for cultivation in the three states of the zone viz., Green gram, Black gram, Red gram, Bengal gram and horse gram have been identified for seed production. The age of cultivars of which the seed is produced is below 10 years. The category of seed being produced under the seed hub programme is certified seed and foundation seed. The crop wise varieties identified for seed production is in table.4

Production of seed:

During the year 2016-17 12 KVKs were involved a total of 2412.31 quintals seed of pulses was produced of the improved varieties . The category of seed ranged between breeders, certified seed, foundation and truthful labeled seed.

During the year 2017-18 12 KVKs were involved a total of 1700.92 quintals seed of pulses was produced of the improved varieties . The category of seed ranged between breeders, certified seed, foundation and truthful labeled seed.

During the year 2018-19 12 KVKs were involved a total of 4164 quintals seed of pulses was produced of the improved varieties. The category of seed ranged between certified seed and foundation seed.
