KVK Sivaganga facilitates dairy processing and marketing during COVID-19 lockdown
Due to COVID-19 lockdown, about 200 KVK linked non-AAVIN farmers faced shortage of concentrated feed for about 650 dairy cows maintained by them. They faced difficulties in dairy maintenance and milking due to fear of spread of COVID 19. Further, farmers could not disperse milk amounting to about 21,000 litres due to lockdown. It was difficult for the farmers to distribute milk in local market due to fear of COVID 19 spread.
KVK, Sivaganga facilitated with AAVIN (Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Producer's Federation Limited) for supply of concentrated feed to KVK linked non-AAVIN dairy farmers. KVK educated dairy farmers on clean milk production following SOP for COVID 19 and facilitated linking of about 200 non AAVIN dairy farmers with AAVIN for sale of 21,000 litres of milk per day. Further, KVK also educated farmers and milk venders to follow SOPs for COVID-19 and facilitated sale of milk in local market, and also encouraged the trained formers for value addition of excess milk viz., Panneer, flavoured milk, etc.
